TOGA Group of Companies

Community

From the very beginning, we’ve been committed to making a positive impact on our community. We focus on providing temporary housing for those in need, while also repurposing hotel fitouts on refurbishment to minimise landfill contributions.

Our commitment

'Meanwhile Use' projects

While our properties await development approval, we don’t let them sit empty. Instead, we open the doors to those who need them most—offering temporary homes and safe spaces for people in need.

The Inner-West Project

2025 – current

The Inner-West Project is TOGA’s third residential pop-up in over seven years. With over 100 rooms and a multi-year commitment, this is the largest Meanwhile Use housing initiative in Australia.

In partnership with two established community housing providers, TOGA has provided the properties under a $1 lease to enable the delivery of urgent accommodation for the homeless.

The project is forecast to produce over 30,000 nights of accommodation each year, offering not just shelter, but a safe and supportive environment to rebuild lives.

The Kirk Pop-Up

2025 – current

Securing a space from TOGA, ReLove has set up a retail shop at The Kirk selling pre-loved furniture to the public.

ReLove transformed the space using designer, rescued furniture. Every piece sold helps fund ReLove’s operations to furnish homes for people in need enabling both sustainability and social-impact.

The Kirk is located at 422 Cleveland Street, Surry Hills.

The Central Project

2022 – current

Our award-winning Central Project was Australia’s second pop-up social housing and retail project located at Adina Central Station.

Comprising of 50 self-contained apartments, this development is managed by a trusted community housing provider, ensuring that residents have the support and stability they need.

Furthermore, we have partnered with organisations including ‘Thread Together’ and ‘Banish’ to incorporate retail spaces dedicated to social good.

‘Thread Together’ tirelessly provides new clothing to those experiencing hardship, restoring their dignity and fostering self-confidence. Whilst ‘Banish’ exemplifies sustainability and corporate responsibility, not only recycling but also providing sustainable retail options and educational sessions for the broader community.

The Addison Project

2017 – 2022

An Australian first, The Addison activated vacant space, providing shelter for vulnerable young people, whilst working in partnership with several key social enterprises.

The Addison Project offered residential accommodation managed by My Foundations Youth Housing, retail spaces by Orange Sky, food by OzHarvest, and access to new clothes by Thread Together.

It was nearly five years at The Addison Project, and throughout that time, we made a phenomenal impact on communities across Sydney. In total 73,912 nights accommodation was provided and $1,620,000 was saved in retail rent. It not only touched thousands of those in need, but also had an immeasurable impact on all the volunteers and people involved in setting it up.
